Ontario tiny home project to build 8 tiny homes in 3 days

St.Thomas, ON – If you have driven by the site of Project Tiny Hope recently, you have seen Doug Tarry Homes’ crew and subtrades steadily constructing YWCA St.Thomas-Elgin’s first bungalow at 21 Kains Street. With a much-anticipated reveal of their demonstration home coming this fall, it is not the only buzz about town.
A blitz build like no other will hit this rapidly developing site on September 24 through September 26, bringing together Wastell Homes, Collier Homes, Winmar Construction, MP Custom Homes, Mark Thomas, DHP Homes, Woodfield Design and Build alongside Doug Tarry Homes. That’s right! In just 3 days crews from each of these local builders will erect walls, add plumbing, electrical, insulation, paint finishes and cabinetry to 8 tiny home units nestled in the north end of the site. Each home will be equipped with a full kitchen, bathroom, laundry, private bedroom and living room providing dignity and comfort. Doug Tarry Homes prides themselves on build to net zero ready standard providing a far more energy efficient and less expensive home to operate.
“We are thrilled this project is coming to reality after many years of planning,” explains Doug Tarry. “It fills a desperately needed gap with the housing needs of our community. We are honored that so many other builders have agreed to participate in our blitz. We look forward to the opportunity to share this success and what is included in it with the housing industry and government throughout Ontario and Canada as we work to address the housing affordability crisis.”
This is a unique opportunity for local builders to come together and show their support towards expanding our city while increasing the number of safe, affordable homes in the heart of St.Thomas. From sunrise at 7am to dusk at 6pm there will be a flurry of activity on site. Lindsay Rice, YWCA Executive Director shares, “we are overwhelmed by the dedication of so many builders interested in participating in our blitz build this month. It truly demonstrates the compassion, generosity and grit that our community proudly showcases.”
A hearty breakfast and lunch will be provided for the volunteer construction teams along with myFM 94.1 broadcasting live while adding energizing music to the 3-day extravaganza. “Though this event is not open to the public, we do encourage everyone to follow us on social media as we’ll be going live, providing photo highlights and more throughout the event,” explains Rice.
